Strike update...

I was hoping the strike would be over by the time I had to teach last night, but it wasn't. In fact, from what I heard from several faculty members, the negotiations have been at a standstill for the past two days since the strike started; they think it will actually continue for another week.

After speaking to a few full-time faculty and some adjuncts, I decided the right thing for me to do was go to my classes & teach for half of each period. I spent the rest of the time walking with the faculty, which was an interesting experience. I spent two days thinking about it and worrying what I was going to do; ultimately, I made my decision at the very last moment. I chose to do what I thought was best for all sides. I was able to meet with some of my students (who don't really understand what's going on because the administration has been trying to "poison" them against the faculty), I was able to show my support for the faculty, and I was able to do a little unintentional schmoozing (the head of my department hugged me & told me how much he appreciated my willingness to support "the team"). Overall, I think I made the best decision for myself - I felt/feel good about it. Now, let's just hope the strike doesn't continue into next week so that I don't have to make another decision. :)

I took the votergasm pledge - what about you?
