Post Christmas ramblings

Although neither of us are religious, Christmas is always a really big deal in our household. We use the holiday as an opportunity to spoil each other. This year was no exception...

Meet my new laptop...

I LOVE THIS LAPTOP! Widescreen display! Super-fast processor! Excellent graphics! Way lighter and cooler (temperature) than my old laptop! And there's a puppy!

(In case you care, it's a pimped out Inspiron E1505.)

M & my friends totally spoiled me this year. Besides the laptop, I also got the complete Sex and the City DVD set, a gorgeous coat, a gift set of Lovely, tons of books, some Hello Kitty stuff (including a karaoke machine), more gift cards than I can count (including one to Half Price Books - oh yeah!), and some more stuff that I can't think of right now.

Oh! I also received cards from three of my Chinese ESL students - all included invitations to stay with them in China (I would love to take them up on it!).

As usual, we spent Christmas day at Beebs' place. Due to various travel plans and other obligations, there were only nine people there for the majority of the day (there are usually anywhere between three and six more people), but it was still crazy fun. We did have two newcomers this year - Beebs' daughter, K (frickin' cute pic here) and the lovely Repressed Librarian (I don't think RL quite knew what she was getting herself into!).

(I don't want to go into this extensively right now, but I just have to mention how happy I am now that I have changed my definition of what constitutes a family (and stopped feeling bad about not having what many people consider to be a real family). Although I'm not related to any of the people I spent Christmas with, they are my family. In fact, I consider them to be my family over anyone who is technically my relative. They are the people who accept me for who I am and who love M and love that we are together. They are the people I have things in common with and can express opinions without fear of major repercussions. They are the ones who have supported me and are the ones I know I can turn to when I need help. They are what family is all about.)

After the excitement over the last few days, today has been all about relaxing. I just finished watching The Family Stone, which will most likely be the most exciting part of my day. I'm trying not to clutter up my vacation with too many activities, but I know I'll go stir-crazy if I sit around the apartment for more than a day.

What's going on with you?

A karaoke machine! I didn't know that existed. I am way jealous.

Lovely is my FAVORITE perfume.

Glad you had a great Christmas.

I love Half-Priced Books! You can find such great books there and it is half-price! How cool is that.

It sounds like you had a really great holiday and that is the best part about it. So glad you had a great day!

I am REALLY behind on blog-reading, but I just wanted to check in. I have an inspiron e1405 (with a fishbowl skin) so i'm with you. i find the thing just a tiny bit too heavy for the amount of time i have to spend hauling around, but i'm pretty pleased with it. i got the shiny screen, though, and i regret it. too much glare. you should totally come to china, tho' it sounds like you're a bit too busy at present!
