I played hooky from full-time job today to spend the afternoon with a blogger (J).* The cool thing about J is that she's not only a blogger, she's also someone I've known for years. J and I were friends in high school and have kept in touch on and off for the past twelve years. There were years in which I didn't talk with her at all, but we always somehow ended up back in touch either through a mutual friend or a random meeting (we ran into each other in London years ago - it was really weird because neither of us had any idea the other was even in London!). Since we both started blogging, we've had the most contact since we were in high school (through our blogs); however, until today, I hadn't actually seen her since 1999. (If it weren't for our blogs, I'm sure we wouldn't have nearly as much contact as we do.)
We spent just over three hours lingering at my favorite Chinese restaurant. We caught up each other on our lives and thoroughly dissected the lives of former classmates (who's married, who has a mess of kids, who's still living in crap-ass Bay City, etc.). We also reminisced over our theatre days (we were both heavily into theatre in high school & both majored in theatre in college) and tried to figure out what happened to our classmates who swore they were going to become famous actors.
Seeing J again was like a combination of hanging out with an old friend and meeting a blogger for the first time. There was so much I didn't know about her new life (only what she had posted on her blog), but there was also a shared history. It was cool - she was a grown-up version of the person I remembered, more worldly and experienced, but still the same funny, nice girl I knew years ago.

(You wouldn't get any message at all, just a blank screen) (but the site linked to my name is open)
