- It is hot as hell here *again* - I keep running into the bedroom (the only room in the apartment with AC) for five-minute intervals to cool off. Yes, M finally cracked a few weeks ago and there is now a lovely AC unit in the bedroom. Oh, how I love thee, beautiful AC!
- Thanks for all of your comments on my last post. I'm still thinking things over & I'm not completely sure whether or not I want to contact her. A few of you made a really good point that I hadn't considered before - do I want to be friends with the person she is now or am I just missing the friendship we had? Actually, I think I'm just missing what we had in the past; I can't say that I know who she is now. Perhaps part of my hesitation in contacting her now is because I didn't like the person she had turned into (as of the last time I saw her). Yet, it's still difficult to just let her go.
- I have a blogger meet-up planned for this weekend! Yay! We're going to Tapas Barcelona! Double yay!
- I spent almost all of Saturday cleaning and organizing my office/exercise room (it's really our dining room, but we decided to turn it into an office when we moved in here). I had an obscene number of books that were just sitting in stacks & needed to be organized. I packed up tons of books to sell to Half Price Books (six big boxes full!) and replaced those with the ones that were stacked on the floor. I was shocked to realize I had purchased duplicate copies of six of those books - I even had three copies of one of them! Arg! Thankfully, they were all purchased from the clearance section at HPB, but still... that's fucked up. Well, at least the books are now finally organized and I can see what I already own.
- Behold the bookshelf of unread books (well, there are three* on there that I've read before, but want to reread):
- Feel free to enlarge the pic & take a look at the titles - let me know if you see anything truly horrible. As you can see here (sort by date read), I haven't had the best of luck with books lately.
*1. Emma: I adored this book when I first read it (in '98) & want to see if I still love it.
2. The Sexual Politics of Meat: again, I loved it back in '99; however, I read it because ex recommended it. Seeing as I pretty much worshiped the ground he walked on, I don't know if I really liked the book or if it was because of ex. :)
3. Crime and Punishment: my favorite book in high school, but that was a long, long time ago.
ETA: ummm, please ignore the nipple cup... it belonged to my father & I just couldn't get rid of it. Yes, I know it's weird - that's why you should ignore it. :)

My literary recs...
First, read Eats, Shoots and Leaves. It will be a nice palate cleanser after your recent disappointments with fiction.
Then, Middlesex. It was excellent.
Happy reading, and congrats on the organization/de-cluttering. Well done!
I see some Joyce Carol Oates on there that really must go--bleck!
from the ones that i can make out -
ooh, i liked caramelo. and i really didn't like the corrections. and was actually surprised that i liked lipstick jungle, good for chick lit.
Another vote for Middlesex.
I cannot believe your restrait with the air cond. When I lived in a place that only had one room with AC, I moved into that room, leaving only to use the bathroom.
A friend of mine only had AC in the bathroom. We ended up playing cards in the bathroom- me on the tub, him on the toliet with booze chilling in the sink.
I will think of you with much sympathy as I crank the central air.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has a shelf like this. And actually, I need to get another shelf as I'm out of room. Methinks that next week might be consumed (if this fucking heat ever breaks) with reorganizing the books in to three areas on the giant shelving units: (1) guilty books not read, (2) diss books -- so they're all in the same place, and (3) books read that I cannot get rid of. That could take all day. You can come over and help. :-)
And yay for M on finally conceding the fight about the AC. I'm miserable when it's so damned hot, and window units are a must. Heat just blows.
My hubby and I are going through our "library." Most of his books are computer, engineering books! Can't give those away!
YAY for AC!!!!!
Yea for AC.
I had no idea that HPB can allow you to sell books...you so made my day!
Yet another vote for Middlesex. It was quite delightful. Also, just read Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime (finally). Loved it. Heard from a reliable source that novel #2 sucked, so avoid that. :) My friends and I (all English teachers) just started a book club because we got into this profession because we liked to read, and we never have much motivation to read anything contemporary. We are quickly clearing our "guilt shelves."
As for your friend (forgive the novel I am posting here), didn't cutting off communication really say "I don't like who you have become" already? Is it really productive to contact her just to say, "I really really don't like who you have become so there - bye!"?
Wicked! Or whatever you have by Anna Quindlen, cannot make out the title. Kite Runner is good but very very depressing.
hmmm.... looking them over... I want to borrow that one, and that one...oooo and THAT one!!!
