Sigh
I have so much to say & had planned get caught up tonight... but that was before some woman in an Alice costume smashed into the back of my car on the way home from work. Yes, I was rear-ended at a red light again.
Like before, I'm not seriously hurt (thankfully!), but my neck is killing me and my car needs some TLC. Actually, I'm not as worried about the car as I am about my neck. I know her insurance will pay for the car repairs, but I don't know what's going to happen with the medical side... I've spent over $3,000 (out of pocket) in chiropractic care over the last year in attempts to correct all of my neck/back issues and now I have to deal with another whiplash issue. :(
This just has not been my year.

Trip time!
I'm jumping on the train tomorrow and heading to Kalamazoo to visit my friend, MT. I'm especially excited to go back there because I had to skip my annual trip last year (due to a combination of various illnesses & a crazy semester), and I haven't seen my friend since '07. The last time I was there, MT and her friends popped my hookah cherry, and we visited an awesome apple orchard & a very creepy haunted house. :) Things have also been a little rough over the last couple of days (oh, how quickly an okay work week can turn into complete crap), and I am looking forward to just getting away from all of the stress for a few days. And no, I will not be grading any papers on the train! I refuse!
I'm going to revisit one of our old school blogger activities (I think profgrrrrl started it years ago... I haven't seen many people doing it lately) - postcards! If anyone wants postcard from Kalamazoo, sent by yours truly, drop me a quick email by tomorrow with your name/address. I promise not to share it with anyone, nor will I add you to any chain letter mailing lists. [comebacknikki AT gmail DOT com]

During the last week & a half...
First, let me just introduce you to the newest member of my family (thanks to M) - her name is Betty and she is a little over a week old. She is a lovely shade of pink (a little sassy & not too soft) and enjoys when I boot her up to surf the internet or play Peggle...

Betty hanging out with her cousin, Lappy
As usual, my birthday was awesome - besides the welcome party for my new family member, it also included several celebrations with various friends, the first of which was the Andersonville Dessert Crawl. We all survived the crawl... just barely. Let's just say by the end of it, we were all incredibly hyped up on sugar and ready to explode. Seriously, it was both amazing and disgusting (I don't even want to think about how many calories we consumed). Some of the highlights included the amazing Mississippi Mud Pie from Big Jones (it was basically a s'more cupcake - sooo delicious!), all of the toffee from Terry's Toffee (I especially enjoyed the Koffee Toffee), and the dark chocolate fudge brownies from my favorite brunch place, M Henry.
I extended the celebrations into the following weekend with repressed librarian (who isn't currently blogging, but I'm working at trying to get her to come back!). After chowing down on some delicious pumpkin pancakes and caramel apple cider, we drove out into the middle of nowhere and stood around in the bitter cold to witness the amazing pumpkin-eating dinosaur. Oh, yes, a pumpkin-eating dinosaur...

We also saw some other things, such as a giant smelly pig and a group of joke-cracking chickens, neither of which came close to the excitement of the dinosaur. :) After we left the farm, we did a little shopping, and then had to rehydrate with some chocolate martinis from anna shea chocolates.

The leather-clad mannequin watched over us as we drank... it was just a little weird.
Besides birthday stuff, I also spent some time during the last week doing this and this with some of my colleagues. Yes, I work with a bunch of lushes. :)
Things were considerably less exciting on those days that didn't involve birthday celebrating, alcohol consumption, or zumba (yes, I'm now dancing around like a fool in zumba class). The first fall term ended and the second fall term started three days later. As usual, that sucked. Well, actually, it sucked even more than usual because I'm teaching two new-to-me and new-to-the-school classes... and I didn't receive the books for either class until last Thursday. Um, too bad the classes started last Tuesday. Sigh. Other than the book situation, the term seems to be off to a decent start. I have a few special students who are already trying my patience, but for the most part I seem to have a good group. We'll see if I still feel the same in few weeks after they turn in the first batch of essays.

comebacknikki in baby prison, 1978
It's that time of the year again! Oh yes, it's the day in which we all celebrate the fabulousness that is comebacknikki! :)
I'm spending the day at the Andersonville Dessert Crawl with M & a few friends. Desserts, desserts, and more desserts! Woo-hoo! :)

Woo-hoo!
(click to embiggen)
It's the start of one of my favorite times of the year... the month in which I receive all kinds of free shit just for being born. Bring it on!
Also, I received another one of those I'm a fantastic professor/educator/faculty member awards today. Yes, I am awesome. Obviously. ;)

Welcome, October!
(I posted part of this back in 2006... thought today would be a perfect day to revisit the goodness!)

A lot of people consider spring to be their season of personal renewal; they feel revived and ready to take on the world. That's how I feel about fall. It just feels damn good to be alive!
In honor of the start of October (which, in my mind, is the actual start of fall), here are some of my favorite things about the season...

In honor of the start of October (which, in my mind, is the actual start of fall), here are some of my favorite things about the season...
- honey crisp apples are in season!! (I bought some at the farmer's market yesterday!)
- it's the perfect time to wear long sleeve v-neck t-shirts, jeans, & cute boots with chunky heels
- the crunch of leaves underfoot
- the smell of wet leaves
- the colors!
- pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks
- perfect weather to hike
- apple cider donuts & pumpkin donuts
- the chilly breeze
- my favorite holiday - Halloween
- my birthday :)
- apple picking
- pumpkin farms
- pumpkin pancakes!
- awesome decorations
- drinking hot apple cider outside at night
- standing outside on a chilly & clear night and looking at the stars
- sleeping without AC or the heat with the window cracked just enough to let in the breeze
